We test car care products (polish, shampoo, sealant, ceramic coating) on different paint types and over multiple wash cycles — a product that looks great once but strips after three washes drops in our ranking. Is ceramic coating worth it over regular wax?+
For owners who wash their car weekly and want 18–24 months of hydrophobic protection, yes. Proper ceramic coatings resist chemicals, UV, and water spots far better than wax. DIY ceramic kits (£30–£80) deliver 70% of professional-job results if the prep is done properly.
Do I need an AGM-compatible battery charger?+
If your car has stop-start or was built after 2015, very likely yes. AGM batteries need a different charging profile than traditional lead-acid — a standard charger will undercharge them. CTEK MXS 5.0 handles both, as do most modern smart chargers.
How often should I wax or seal my car?+
Traditional carnauba wax: every 2–3 months. Synthetic sealant: every 4–6 months. Ceramic coating: once applied properly, 12–24 months. UK winter salt accelerates deterioration, so a December top-up is always worth it.
What trolley jack height do I need?+
For standard saloon or hatchback: 135mm minimum lift, 350mm maximum is fine. For SUVs or lowered cars: check minimum ground clearance specifically. Always use axle stands with trolley jacks — jacks are for lifting, not supporting.
