Dog food recommended by vets? Odour-free cat litter? We test and compare 329 products for horses, dogs, cats, rabbits and small animals.

10 reviews

Pet products are tested by real pet owners first and spec-checked second. We cover dogs, cats, small animals, horses, birds, and aquariums — with input from vets and animal nutritionists on the food and supplement side. For food we check AAFCO or FEDIAF compliance, source transparency, and protein-to-filler ratio. For equipment we focus on safety (no small parts that can break off, BPA-free plastics, non-toxic dyes), durability under actual pet use, and cleanability. Horse equipment gets extra scrutiny on weight distribution and fit adjustability. Every recommendation is one we'd use on our own pets — no affiliate-driven rankings.

Frequently asked questions about pets

Is grain-free dog food actually better?+
For most dogs, no. The FDA has linked some grain-free diets to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Unless your dog has a diagnosed grain allergy, a complete food with whole grains is usually the safer evidence-based choice.
How do I pick the right cat litter?+
Clumping bentonite is best for tray hygiene, silica crystals for odour control, and wood or paper pellets for dust-sensitive cats or kittens. Whatever you pick, transition gradually by mixing old and new litter over 7–10 days.
What size horse rug does my horse need?+
Measure from the centre of the chest, along the side of the body, to the point of the buttock. In the UK this is expressed in feet and inches (e.g., 6'0"). Round up rather than down if between sizes, especially for stable rugs used during growth.
Are interactive pet toys safe to leave unattended?+
Most are rated for supervised play only. We flag this clearly in every review. Treat-dispensing toys should be chosen by your pet's bite strength — Kong classifies theirs from Puppy to Extreme for this reason.
